Jacobacci Rogands R1
late 60s
Here once again is a magnificent Jacobacci with impeccable craftsmanship.
It is a hollowbody construction with a body and neck made of high-quality mahogany. Perfectly straight and expertly set up, it offers a feel more commonly associated with American guitars than French ones quite frankly. It is quite similar to a 330 from the same period. Quite lively, it has a strong acoustic vibe. It is originally equipped with Burns Tri-Sonic pickups, famously used by Brian May of Queen on his Red Special. These pickups have a high output level and excellent clarity, somewhat more powerful than typical Fender single coils, for example. I cannot emphasize enough the quality of the craftsmanship—it conveys both a sense of solidity and lightness combined, making it a real pleasure to play. It retains its original individual SB tuners. It appears that the binding has been professionally redone, which is a weak point on these guitars, as with Gretsch models; the work is very well executed and, in my opinion, preferable to original binding that tends to crumble. It stays in tune and is easy to play. This is a rare guitar in this configuration—in fact, it is the only Jacobacci R1 I have seen with these original pickups. Jacobacci often fitted Benedetti, Gibson, RV, etc., pickups on request, but Burns pickups are much less common. I have found an R2 with the same pickups, but I believe this one is a unique piece.
Supplied with a modern semi-rigid case.
