Vox Bossman
1967
The Bossman is undoubtedly one of the most surprising guitars I have come across. Made in Italy by EKO for Vox in the late ’60s, it features its original Vox Ferro-Sonic pickup and onboard electronics. These include a built-in tuner that generates a reference tone—a genuinely useful feature that works remarkably well—a Treble/Bass Booster and a Distortion effect. Ahead of its time, this setup also showcases Vox’s expertise in effects.
The semi-hollow body has a feel reminiscent of a Fender Coronado, which was the first model that came to mind when I picked it up. The neck is particularly comfortable, with a slim, fast profile that makes it a pleasure to play.
The Bossman is a rare model, and this is the first example I have encountered. The plastics, hardware, vibrato, tailpiece, neck plate and electronics are all original and well preserved, making it a particularly interesting piece for enthusiasts of British guitar brands.
Produced for only a short period and now considerably rarer than the Phantom or Mark VI, the Bossman represents one of Vox’s most original creations. Supplied with a gig bag.
