Fender Stratocaster Black Refin

1963

Here is a fantastic instrument with an exceptional feel.

This Stratocaster dates from early 1963. It bears a January 1963 stamp on the neck, and the potentiometers date to the 6th week of 1963. The body appears to have been refinished a long time ago, as it blacklights like old nitrocellulose lacquer. It’s impossible to date the work precisely after the fact, but it is undoubtedly several decades old. The choice of color is quite fitting in my opinion—black is always a crowd-pleaser.

The feel of the neck is incredible. You barely need to press the strings. It has that quality found in great Fender guitars: very resonant unplugged—you can already hear it ring out before even plugging it in. Its weight of 3.6 kg is ideal in my view, neither too heavy nor too light, which could otherwise affect sustain. The three original black-bottom pickups, of course, sound absolutely fantastic. The tuners, green pickguard, and plastic parts (pickup covers and knobs) are original.

The guitar has been refretted, of course, and a new nut has been installed, as it has clearly seen a lot of playing, as you can tell. The wear on the finish is authentic—these are real signs of use, not artificial relic work.

This is a guitar that has been played, and you can feel it.

It comes with its original Fender case and a strap.
