Gibson Les Paul custom 54 reissue

1973

This magnificent Les Paul is the first reissue of the 1954 model featuring a staple pickup—also known as Alnico V or P480—in the neck position, and a P90 in the bridge. This is an original configuration found only in the mid-1950s, from 1954 to 1956.

The neck pickup was designed to deliver high-fidelity clarity, being less aggressive and less prone to distortion than a P90. It was naturally discontinued from the lineup when the humbucker made its appearance. This version of the Les Paul Custom was only briefly reproduced again in 1972 and 1973.

This instrument is faithful to the original; the only noticeable difference is the addition of a volute on the neck, but otherwise the construction is very close, with a non-pancake body and a one-piece mahogany neck. The guitar weighs only 4 kg, which is clearly felt both in the sound and in the playing comfort. You don’t wear it like a cross, and a 4 kg Les Paul really vibrates—this one is especially playable and resonant.

It is in excellent overall condition, with all original parts and no repairs. The original finish is in very good condition, with a few light scratches from use, but nothing serious.

It is set up and ready to play.

Supplied in its original hard case.
