Gibson SJ-200
1951
The queen of flat tops. This natural SJ-200 dates from 1951, a year in which only 131 were produced. It’s an iconic guitar for Americana folk and country music. This is only the second one I have for sale in 17 years. The last one was a 1952, nine years ago… As always with Gibson, the natural finish really highlights the quality of the wood, which is often more spectacular than the sunburst. The mustache bridge is finely sculpted, not too heavy, just right.
The jumbo size brings volume and presence, with well-defined bass, precise treble, and beautiful articulation. The sound is wide, with a natural compression that softens the attack. It’s truly a great guitar.
Its pickguard has been replaced with an old replica, but without the binding.
Supplied in its original Lifton hardshell case.
