Gibson Southern Jumbo banner 160E conversion

Yes, that’s a name that deserves some explanation. This is a 1944 Gibson Southern Jumbo Banner that was returned to Gibson by its owner George Whitley in 1965 to be converted into a 160E model, a bit like the Beatles. We have copied of some of his documents as well as some photos and traces of the work done. The neck profile was slightly refined, a P90 at the end of the fingerboard installed with its 2 period knobs and buttons. A double pickguard was installed at that time and the logo redone in the 1965 style. The bridge was reworked and reglued, the top joint stabilized as well as a few cracks on the back. During its life, a neck reset was performed, so it plays wonderfully today. It sounds amazing, it is a Banner after all. The P90 works well and adds a truly electric dimension to the instrument. It’s not a piezo! To top it all off, it comes in its original hard case.
