National Triolian Polychrome
1930
Here is a Triolian from 1930 that has gone through several stages. It seems that the body is from a model with a bakelite neck because the routing of the body to accommodate the neck is quite typical of these. Once warped they are impossible to fix, so the guitar has been converted with a vintage neck. I do not know when this was made but it seems that the painting was redone at that time. We can notice that it is quite old and that the finish is peeling in many places, on the back of the neck in particular, behind the nut. I gave it to Mike Lewis of Fine Resophonic recently to reglue a little chip on the heel and set it up properly. The cone was very smashed so Mike was kind enough to installone of his own. It made a huge difference. The guitar is set to play both finger style and bottleneck with an action at 3mm at the 12th fret. The guitar remains a bit mysterious but it’s a National from the 1930s anyway, the price takes all of this into account and places it on par with a new or recent model. Modern case.
