Gibson LG-1

1958

The photos speak for themselves: this instrument is in excellent condition.

Very little wear. The neck is wide and substantial, measuring 42.8 mm at the nut, the most sought-after width among knowledgeable players. Its profile is typical of the late 1950s.

No repairs to report. The original faux-crocodile case is in good condition, a strong indication that the guitar has been well cared for, as these cases are relatively fragile.

It sounds excellent, with a woody, mid-focused tone that still retains good low end, even if it is less robust than an LG-2. It is an outstanding accompaniment guitar for vocals, as it does not overpower the voice.

If you are looking for a fine LG-1 with a rectangular bridge, this one is a very serious candidate.
