Roland RE-100

1973

The Roland RE-100 is an early solid-state tape echo from the late 1960s, predating the famous Space Echo series and showcasing Roland’s first steps into magnetic delay design. Compact and straightforward, it delivers warm, vintage repeats with a smooth, natural decay and just the right amount of tape coloring. The RE-100 features multiple playback heads for selectable delay times and a simple control layout for mix, feedback, and level, making it easy to dial in anything from short slapbacks to lush, ambient echoes. Its tone sits beautifully in a mix—less dark than tube-based units but still rich and organic—offering a glimpse into the origins of the classic Roland echo sound that would later define the RE-201 Space Echo.
