Bajo Sexto Geronimo Villafan

1950s

This relatively rare instrument in our region is a Bajo Sexto, used in Mexican music, quite often in duet with an accordion, it is a bass 12-string guitar tuned in perfect fourths. E A D G C F. However, there’s nothing stopping you from tuning it like a traditional 12-string guitar. You will then have a 12 string bass guitar. The luthier who made this Bajo Sexto is Geronimo Villafan Mexican luthier, member of a family of luthiers with a great reputation and history. Made during the 1950s, it has a spruce top, rosewood back and sides, which looks a lot like brazilian but which could be Palo Escrito, a Mexican rosewood, also of the Dalbergia type, with very similar patterns. The general condition is good with marks of intensive use because it is an instrument that has been played a lot as you can see but overall it is in well-treated condition. We will still note a little repair just under the tuners. The neck is straight and well playable. The sound is outrageous. Absolutely brilliant instrument. Comes in a soft case and will be pro packed for shipping as usual.
