Gibson ES-335 with P90

If you’ve ever wondered what an ES-335 would sound like with P-90s, here is your answer.

This instrument is a true rarity, with only two examples known to date.

It is essentially a Gibson ES-330TD with a center block, or an ES-335TD fitted with P-90s, depending on how you choose to look at it. Finished in Sunburst and dating from late 1972, it bears serial number 745780 and features CTS potentiometers coded 137 9 42.

This exceptionally rare example features a factory-original configuration with two P-90 pickups with black plastic covers rather than chrome ones, combined with an ES-335TD-style construction, including the same scale length and a center block. The last ES-330TD models produced from the late 1960s through 1972 shared this general construction, but without the center block. To date, only two documented examples of this center-block version are known, including this guitar.

As you can see, this instrument has never been fitted with humbuckers and shows no signs of any routing or modification of that kind. This is a genuine factory-original configuration, most likely built as a special order.

On a scale of 1 to 10, this 1972–73 Gibson ES-330TD in Sunburst finish is rated 8.5/10 in its current condition.

It will come with a certificate of authenticity issued by Arnaud Legrand, independent luthier and French vintage guitar expert, as well as a second certificate issued by our shop.
