Stunning Gibson Custom Shop Michael Bloomfield 1959 Les Paul Standard Reissue VOS, a particularly sought-after edition inspired by Michael Bloomfield’s legendary 1959 Les Paul Standard.

The top is, of course, beautifully figured flame maple, with the figuring changing dramatically depending on the viewing angle. The VOS sunburst finish has the lightly aged patina characteristic of this series. The back, neck and headstock are also in very nice condition.

The guitar weighs only 3.898 kg, a particularly desirable weight for a Les Paul of this type.

It has received a few high-quality upgrades. The original pickups have been replaced with a set of ThroBak SLE-101 MXV Maximum Vintage humbuckers in Aged Nickel finish, wound with Long A2 magnets: 7.6 kΩ in the neck position and 8.1 kΩ in the bridge. These are highly regarded PAF reproductions. The bridge and stopbar have also been replaced with a Faber set.

All of these are high-quality upgrades, and the original parts have of course been kept, so the guitar can easily be returned to its original specifications if desired. That said, I have to say that in its current ThroBak/Faber configuration, it performs and sounds particularly good.

It comes with its original Gibson Custom Shop case and a very complete set of documentation, including the Certificate of Authenticity, Michael Bloomfield booklet, Gibson Gold Warranty, original checklist and ThroBak documentation.

A beautiful and lightweight Les Paul with a spectacular top, and a particularly appealing ThroBak and Faber configuration for anyone who values the guitar’s playing and tonal qualities as much as its collectability.
