Martin 000-18

1943

This 1942 Martin 000-18 is a fine example of a vintage instrument whose charm remains intact despite the marks of time. Built during an emblematic period in Martin’s history, it features an Adirondack top with scalloped bracing and a rear-shifetd X, two characteristics that you’ll only find from 1938 to 1942. So, of course, this is a well played instrument, and it has been maintained in optimal playing condition over the decades. But remember, when it left the Martin workshop in Nazareth, World War II wasn’t over. That was over 80 years ago. At the time, the Martin factory employed only about twenty workers in production… This guitar has had its bridge and backplate replaced, as well as a neck reset, and the neck angle is still good; it’s even very playable. Of course it has undergone a few repairs, including two plugs behind the bridge, and a general overspray. The comfortable neck has been refretted and remains easy to play. The tuners work well and hold tune well. It has rich, balanced sound, typical of prewar Martins: warm, precise, with excellent projection. A guitar full of character, intended for a musician who seeks soul more than cosmetic perfection.

In its original hardshell case.
