Gretsch Firebird 6131 Oriental Red
1958
This is a rare bird. Yes, I know, it’s easy… It seems to me that this is the first one I’ve offered you in all these years. It’s a chambered body from the 50s, in the vein of the duojet and other white penguins with which it shares a similar construction. These are very vibrant instruments with a slightly lower sustain than solid bodies, but the advantage is that you get greater resonance and a broader sound, so to speak. It’s quite clear on this model. It’s a light and very handy instrument that has been played a lot. The tuners have been changed, the original pickups are in place, but it had others, as you can tell from a slight enlargement of the cavities. It should also be noted that the black paint on the back has been removed. The rest of the finish is original. There are a few modifications that will put off collectors, for sure, but for players, it’s an opportunity to get your hands on a Gretsch from the 50s at a much more affordable price than what is usually the case. In a modern case.
