In 1976, Gibson introduced an extra switch on the ES-335 that it called a “coil tap.” It actually works as a coil split, selecting just one of the humbucker’s two coils for a sound closer to that of a single-coil pickup. The switch is visible on the lower horn of this guitar. The wear in the finish on the back of the neck shows that it’s been played, but it’s been very well cared for. There are no breaks or repairs. The original pickups sound great, and the coil split gives the guitar a wider range of tones. The neck is straight and plays very well. The original frets have been leveled and are in good condition, with plenty of height left. The original Gibson tulip-button tuners work very well. The Wine Red finish has aged nicely and still has its gloss, with a few light surface marks here and there, as you’d expect on a guitar of this age.
