Gibson Johnny Smith

1972

Superb instrument which shows that the craftsmanship quality was still there at Gibson in the 70s. I am tempted to say the Johnny Smiths are excellent guitars and rank among the best archtops ever created by Gibson. This is an electric guitar designed as an acoustic. Without routing on the top, the pickup just leans on it. This model originally fitted with 2 PU was converted to a single one, the second PU is indeed quite inconvenient for most players and few have the use of the bridge pickup on an archtop anyway… The pickup installed is a vintage microphone from that era and is likely one of the original one. The guitar comes with another single pickup and knob from 1969. The installed pickguard is a reproduction.  A great guitar with an absolutely stunning sound both acoustically and electrically. Supplied with a hard case of the correct size.
